Hey Called Creative!
As the holiday of love draws near and we prepare to love on our sweeties and boo thangs, I want to drop in right quick with a lovey dovey reminder from our Creator:
… pour out your hearts before Him. God is a refuge for us.
Psalm 62:8
As prophetic people, most times our emotions operate a bit more intensely than the average joe’s. We really know how to feel our feels!
Oftentimes, emotionalism is demonized within certain religious frameworks however, the Lord continues to remind me that He didn’t give me my emotions to ignore them or check them at the door before entering into His presence.
He gave them to me as accessories of my worship unto Him. He wired me so emotionally so that I can continually take my heart off of my sleeve and place it in His hands, no matter how raw, intense or ugly these emotions are.
In my coming to Him in all of the ickiness of frustration, anger, hurt, disappointment, intimacy is developed and deepened with the Lover of My Soul.
As we journey along as trail blazers and pioneers, life is going to hurt more times than not. But you are sensitive for closeness and the betterment of your relationship with your Father, not for your detriment.
Pour your hearts out to God!
Here are 5 things to remember as you do so.
He’s your safe space.
There’s nothing more unnerving than learning that the person you trusted with your fragile vulnerability has shared your most-kept secrets with someone else. When pouring out your heart before Abba, that would never be a thing. He is your refuge and you can trust Him to be so.
Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.
Psalm 62:8
What exactly does "refuge" mean?
Refuge: a place of shelter, protection, or safety; anything to which one has recourse for aid, relief, or escape
Not only are your secrets protected in His presence, but He is a safe space for our anger, for our depressive sadness, even for our excitement. There is also great blessing for the Called Creative who takes refuge in the Lord.
Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
Psalm 34:8
The blessing is the recourse we have in Him as our refuge for aid, relief or escape. May you find great safety in the secret place of the Most High.
You are always on His mind
When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him?
Psalm 8:3-4
The Lord is so beautifully mindblowing. The fact that the Maker of the heavens and the earth, the Creator of the trillions of galaxies that would take millions of years to travel to, the Establisher of the rotation of the planets and the rising and setting of the sun and moon since He first spoke it so, is mindful of you and I.
And He’s not thinking of us in any ole type of way either. His thoughts of you and I are precious, valuable and numerous.
How precious also are your thoughts unto me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand…
Psalm 139:17-18a
And Your thoughts toward us cannot be recounted to You in order; If I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered ....
Psalm 40:5
Doesn’t that make it easier for us to be comfortable pouring our hearts out to the perfect Being if we know He has us on the front of His mind anyway?
God is not intimidated by your big feelings.
In my humble opinion, this is the healthiest, most confident masculine energy ever to exist. You mean to tell me that no matter how much I roll all over the floor, kicking, screaming and crying, the Lord is not going to react out of offense or impatience but out of patience and kindness instead?
And why is that, you ask? Because of His love for us. In fact, because God is love.
...It (love) is not provoked [nor overly sensitive and easily angered]...
1 Corinthians 13:5 AMP
Read that again! Imagine if we were serving an overly sensitive, offended-at-everything God. All of us would be burning in hell RIGHT NOW.
The Bible also tells us to cast all our cares, all our anxieties, all our worries, and all our concerns on Him, because He cares about us (1 Peter 5:7 AMP). What an audacious command. If He was unable, I’m pretty sure He wouldn’t have told us to do so in His Word.
He cares deeply for and is concerned about you. A little temper tantrum isn’t going to change that.
The Lord is a problem solver.
I love venting to my sister but NOTHING beats venting every single frustration to the One who has the power to change my situation. It’s encouraging to know also that He hears me when I cry out to Him.
I sought the Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.
Psalm 34:4
This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.
Psalm 34:6
The righteous cry, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles.
Psalm 34:17
We’re not just pouring our hearts out with emotional relief; we're pouring with expectation of tangible results too!
The Lord is close to you.
I understand it could be difficult sharing the most vulnerable parts of you with someone you perceive to be distant, but the Lord is the closest to those who are broken and know that they are in need of Him.
The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit.
Psalm 34:18
A contrite spirit means a remorseful or repentful disposition. Have you ever tried sincerely apologizing to someone who was mug, cold and arrogant? Not so easy, huh?
I’m so glad that even when we’re in the wrong and look to reconcile with our Father, we're able to pour out guilt and shame at His feet. He isn’t taunting us with “I told you so” or discouraging us from doing so. He’s close and even saves when we come to pour out our hearts in remorseful repentance. Thank you Jesus.
In your pursuit of executing great exploits for the glory of God and even in your normal human experience, emotion will be prevalent and even overwhelming.
Don’t try to bury it or ignore it; use your emotion to go to the feet of Jesus knowing that He is a safe space, you’re already on His mind, your big emotions are no match for His sovereignty, the issue is already solved and He is right there with you.
