Idolatry of Giftedness || Side Effects of the Called Creative: The Series

Updated: Feb 22

The Lord was not stingy when He created you, Called Creative.

You possess gifts that are unique and true-to-you and the only thing you had to do to receive them was simply be born. You flow in them with such an effortless ease; it’s like breathing to you.

Your gifts have made room for you, announced the call on your life without explanation and has even been the object of praise and adoration from others.Your gifts testify of the immeasurable creativity and sovereignty of the Uncreated One who thoughtfully assigned and dispersed them to you.

As Called Creatives, we are no strangers to being naturally great and as awesome as our gifts are, I hear the Lord solemnly reminding us that we are putting way too much emphasis on and trust in them which means we’re putting too much trust and reliance in ourselves and our own abilities.

As if we were the ones who formed the heavens and all the hosts of them by the breath of our mouths. Or knitted our own inward parts in the secret of our mother’s wombs. Or as if we were the ones who set the boundary for the waters of the sea or settled the mountains and hills on the face of the earth.

The Lord is raising up and ushering out a new generation of Davids to replace a multitude of King Sauls. The King Sauls or those currently (and temporarily) in positions of power who were once anointed to do what they’re doing; they are amazingly gifted at what they do but their hearts are now far from God and full of pride. They have been deceived by their own glory, attention and resources their God-given gifts have profited them and the mission they were placed in position for in the first place has been long forsaken.

The Lord is dealing with them as He is dealing with you, Called Creative.

He is preparing you to take the place of kings but like David, the Lord is looking for those who have a heart for Him and Him alone. Those who understand that our gifts are supposed to serve as blinking arrows pointing toward the Cross and not us.

It is time to seek the Lord.

Not for promotion, not to take the place of kings, but to get to know the Giver of gifts just for who He is.

I recently shared on my Instagram story that the Lord is calling for us to draw near to Him for a myriad of reasons, many of them being personal, but the overarching theme is to get to know Him better; even if you already know Him pretty well, it’s time to experience the next level of glory.

How can we be all who the Lord has called us to be and do all of the wildly uncomfortable, faith-leaping exploits He has called us to do if we don’t even know the God who has made us or instructing us to take on these said feats????

Would you obey the instructions of a complete and total stranger?

In the same manner, even though the Lord knows each and every one of His creations, there is an intimate knowing that comes from an intimate relationship with those who diligently seek Him.

So the Lord said to Moses, “I will also do this thing that you have spoken; for you have found grace in My sight, and I know you by name.”

Exodus 33:17

Proverbs 3:32 says that the Lord’s secret counsel is with the upright or as the New Living Translation puts it “He offers His friendship to the godly”.

Think of what you and your closest friend share between the two of you; the intimacy, trust, confidence, safety. You know your friend; you know that they have your best interest in mind and would do almost anything for you. There is a closeness that has been cultivated by both parties. Both of you have been vulnerable, both of you have sacrificed, and you both have been intentional about contributing to the vitality of your relationship.

So it is with our friendship with the triune Godhead: it is reciprocal.

He desires to have closeness with us but are we reciprocating that unto Him?

No, you wouldn’t trust a stranger enough to obey his instructions because he is just that: a stranger; and the Lord wouldn’t ultimately choose one He cannot trust to share His secret counsel with; that person would be considered a stranger to Him also.

Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

Matthew 7:23

This blog post could be pages and pages long if we tried to list all the reasons why the Lord would be asking us to draw near in this hour:

  • So that we will finish well unlike King Saul

  • Our hearts will cultivated to be for Him and full of Him

  • We can trust Him and be trusted by Him

  • To successfully advance the kingdom of God here on earth

  • To hear and see Christ clearly and without confusion, fear or worry

  • To be effective and pure vessels for His use

I mean the list can go on.

But the number one reason is because He is specifically asking us to, Called Creative.

Yes, your gifts are not for nought.

Yes, He has plans to promote and elevate us so that we ride the high places of the earth and be the beneficiary of His everlasting covenant.

Yes, people will be saved, healed and delivered and our ministries will be fruitful by the Spirit of the Living God.

Yes, He wants to give us the desires of our heart plus exceeding and abundantly more than what we can ask or think.

But taking precedence above all of that, God is God and we are to seek His face and heart with a pure and genuine desire to know Him and not seek His hand with motivation to acquire what’s in it.

Let us humble ourselves before Him, laying aside our gifts as our idols and revere the Giver of life.

The intangible acquisitions of relationship with the Almighty are far more sweeter and lasting than the material blessings that tend to distract us from the authentic worship He deserves.

Remember, before you are a Creative you are called by God; let us answer our call to be one of the few that are chosen. (Matthew 22:14)
